Solent NHS Trust sites rated highly in patient-led assessments
Annual data published by NHS England reveals that Solent NHS Trust is highly regarded in its non-clinical areas identified as important by service users and the public.
The PLACE (Patient-Led Assessments of the Care Environment) programme aims to promote the principles established by the NHS Constitution that focus on areas that matter to patients, families and carers:
– Putting patients first;
– Active feedback from the public, patients and staff;
– Adhering to basics of quality care;
– Ensuring services are provided in a clean and safe environment that is fit for purpose.
The 2023 results detail how Solent NHS Trust has scored top in four categories against other organisations in the South East region overall: Food combined 95.43%; Privacy and dignity 94.58%; Dementia 94.22%; Disability 93.84%.
Solent’s scores cover six of its sites across Portsmouth (St James’ Hospital; St Mary’s Community Health Campus; Summerlee Unit (formerly Jubilee) in Harry Sotnick House)); and Southampton (Bitterne Health Centre; Western Community Hospital; Royal South Hants Hospital) were rated.
The lowest individual score out of all of Solent’s statistics was 88.37% whilst the Trust scored 100% for:
- cleanliness at Bitterne Health Centre;
- ward food at the Western Community Hospital, Royal South Hants Hospital and Summerlee Unit;
- condition, appearance and maintenance at Bitterne Health Centre;
- dementia needs being met at Summerlee Unit.
Solent NHS Trust Chief Executive, Andrew Strevens, said: “We are really proud to have achieved these results as they demonstrate how we continuously strive to uphold excellent standards in terms of our patients’ environments and experiences alongside high-quality clinical care.
“These patient-led assessments are invaluable to us as they let us hear through patients’ voices if we are supporting them in the most compassionate and comprehensive way. The feedback ensures that we are best protecting crucial considerations such as privacy, dignity and tailoring individual needs.”
