People urged to get COVID-19 vaccination ahead of festive period

People across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight (HIOW) are being urged to get their COVID-19 booster ahead of Christmas.

Solent NHS Trust continues to run a number of walk-in pop-up clinics at locations across HIOW for those eligible for autumn booster vaccinations, first and second doses for ages 12+ and first boosters. For more information about eligibility visit https://www.nhs.uk/.../how-to.../how-to-get-a-booster-dose/

Solent’s current involvement in the COVID vaccination programme will conclude on Thursday 8 December 2022 with community pharmacies and GP services continuing to offer vaccinations across the county and on the island after this date.

Southampton’s vaccination centre at Oakley Road will no longer offer vaccinations after 2.30pm on Friday 2 December 2022. While the final day for the Riverside Centre on the Isle of Wight is on Saturday 3 December.

Angela Anderson, Clinical Director for the Solent Vaccination Programme, said: “It has been a privilege to have been the lead provider of mass vaccination centres and pop-up clinics across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight over the last two years. We are proud to have delivered over 836,000 vaccinations as part of the wider programme and cannot thank our staff, volunteers and partner agencies enough for their support.

“I’d urge people to come forward and get their COVID-19 vaccination ahead of the busy festive period to help protect you and your loved ones – we have walk-in capacity at many of our pop-up clinics and our experienced and friendly staff will be on hand should you have any questions.”

Dr Matt Nisbet, GP and clinical lead for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight COVID Vaccination Programme, said: “The tireless efforts by Solent NHS Trust’s vaccine team and the countless volunteers who have gone above and beyond to ensure our local communities could quickly and safely access their vaccinations cannot be underestimated. I would like to express my thanks, both personally and on behalf of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care System for all the team have done to help keep people safe.

"While these clinics will no longer be offering vaccinations, there will remain sites for people yet to get vaccinated and I would urge everyone eligible to come forward as soon as possible.”

Appointments for community pharmacies and other locations can be booked (for any age or dose required) using the National Booking Service on www.nhs.uk/covidvaccination. More appointments are added regularly so if you can’t find a convenient time, please keep checking back
