Solent NHS Trust Chief Executive to take up new role in South West
Sue Harriman, Solent NHS Trust’s Chief Executive, will be leaving the Trust in February to take up a new role as designate Chief Executive of the NHS Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board (ICB).
“It has been an absolute honour to be the Chief Executive of Solent NHS Trust for the past seven years. When I look back over my time at Solent, I have an overwhelming sense of pride in all that the Trust has achieved. Solent NHS Trust really is a wonderful Trust full of incredible people who all go above and beyond for the benefit of local people,” said Sue Harriman, Chief Executive.
Sue added: “I will be very sad to leave Solent and the amazing people who work here, but now is the right time for me to move on and for me to hand over the leadership of Solent as it continues on its journey to become an ‘outstanding’ Trust.”
Sue has been Chief Executive of Solent NHS Trust since 2014 and in February this year completed a 6-month secondment as Chief Operating Officer for the national COVID-19 vaccination deployment programme. With more than 16 years clinical experience gained from working as a nurse in the Royal Navy, Sue joined the NHS in 2002 as a nurse consultant in infection prevention. She has since held a number of executive and leadership positions including Director of Nursing and Allied Health Professions, Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director.
The Trust’s Chair, Catherine Mason said: “I would like to personally thank Sue for her excellent, visionary leadership. During her time at Solent, the Trust has gone from strength-to-strength. In 2019, it was rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission and ‘Outstanding’ for the care that is provided and the Trust’s staff survey results, which are amongst the best in the country, reflect Sue’s incredible commitment to supporting employees so that they feel able to be at their best.
Catherine added: “Sue’s drive to bring health and care services together has made a real difference to outcomes and services for local people. We are eternally grateful for all that she has achieved.”
Andrew Strevens, Solent NHS Trust’s Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Financial Officer will second into the role of Interim Chief Executive following Sue’s departure whilst the substantive Chief Executive position is recruited to.
