Announcement of dedicated research hub at St. Mary's Community Health Campus, Portsmouth
Solent NHS Trust has unveiled plans for a new research and education hub, as part of the £10.3m refurbishment project currently underway at St. Mary’s Community Health Campus in Portsmouth.
Block C, formally known as the Ella Gordon Unit, is a single storey building on the St. Mary’s site. Requiring major refurbishment works to make it a useable space, the plans for Block C include moving the Trust’s Learning and Development team to their own dedicated space, which will be shared with the Wessex Deanery, who provide clinical education to medical staff.
In addition, Solent’s Research Academy will also be housed here, enabling research staff to be located on an active hospital site and giving them easier access to patients who may be participating in one of the Trust’s 50 on-going research projects.
Solent NHS Trust won a major research award in 2018, for its commitment to research and improvement, with projects providing insights to medical conditions that are affecting local populations in Portsmouth and Southampton.
Due to open in October, this hub will feature a conference facility and dedicated areas for meeting with patients taking part in research projects.
