Children's Diabetes Service

The Children's Diabetes Team offer nursing care, support and advice to children and young people who have been diagnosed with Diabetes in the Southampton area.

Referral criteria

Children and young people in the Southampton area who have been diagnosed with Diabetes. Referrals are made directly to the team through the hospital or other professionals once a child has been diagnosed as diabetic.

Full service description

The Children's Diabetes Team offer support, nursing, care and advice to children and young people who have already been diagnosed with Diabetes. The team offer clinics at Southampton General Hospital in Children's Outpatients on C Level on Thursday afternoons, as well as quarterly at Lymington Hospital (the first Tuesday mornings in January, April, July and October).

Patients are seen regularly at the clinic and also have a full assessment and review once a year, where a full physical examination takes place and blood tests are taken to check for further complications of Diabetes. Patients have access to a 24 hour emergency telephone line: 0870 626 0364
