We can see all children, young people and parents who are aged between 5 – 19 years and who are resident within Southampton City

Full service description

We are School Nurses and No Limits workers who aim to support every child’s health throughout their time at school and college. We will work not only within schools and colleges but also where young people want to be seen

We work with children, young people, families and other organisations such as schools, colleges, GP and other community and hospital services.

Our priority is to support the health and wellbeing of young people and families in Southampton by promoting good health.

The Public Health Nursing service is based in a number of centres around Southampton. The teams consist of Qualified School Nurses, No Limits practitioners and support team members.

We provide confidential advice and information about all health concerns

We provide:

  • National Childhood Measurement programme at Year R and Year 6
  • Support and advice for healthy weight
  • Support for growth and developmental issues

 

  • Help if you are worried about your child’s health
  • Individual care plans for children with health concerns requiring support in school
  • Support for children with complex health needs who may be in special schools
  • Enuresis (bedwetting) advice and help
  • Child protection working with young people, parents and other agencies
  • Health promotion education and training
  • Parenting advice
  • Healthy sleep routine information and advice
  • Emotional wellbeing support
  • Parent and young person drop in sessions
  • Immunisations including HPV for year 8 girls
  • Young person’s sexual health and contraceptive advice
  • Young persons alcohol advice and stop smoking help

We will work with your child, young family and other professionals to make sure your child reaches their full potential

Referral Criteria

We can see all children, young people and parents who are aged between 5 – 19 years and who are resident within Southampton City

Referral Method

Every school from primary to further education colleges have a named school nurse. All the GP practices in Southampton also have a named practitioner from the Public Health Nursing service. We can accept referrals from anyone including young people and families or you can come and see us at our drop in sessions in schools and colleges.
