Admiral Nursing Service

Admiral Nurses provide the specialist dementia support that families need. When things get challenging or difficult, our Nurses work alongside people with dementia, their families and carers: giving them one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions. The unique dementia expertise and experience an Admiral Nurse brings is a lifeline—it can help families to live more positively with dementia in the present and to face the challenges of tomorrow with more confidence and less fear.

Referral Criteria

The Solent Admiral Nurse service is open to anyone with a Southampton GP who is caring for someone with dementia and struggling to cope. We accept self-referrals as well as referrals from health and social care professionals. The referrals can be made by telephone, fax, letter or email snhs.ciseast@nhs.net. We also run weekly carer focused Memory cafes which are open to anyone caring for someone living with dementia. Please contact us for more details.

Full service description

The Admiral Nursing Service provide training and support to informal and formal carers and professionals working with people with dementia, in order to improve the quality of life of people with dementia.

The service provides specialist nursing intervention and support for the carers of people with dementia, wokring with family carers as the prime focus, and providing practical advice and information.  The service provide consultancy to professionals working with people with dementia, and promote best practice in person centred dementia care.

Memory Cafes

Weekly carer focused meetings across Southampton run by Admiral Nurses, our Memory cafes are an opportunity to meet and socialise with people who understand your situation in an informal and friendly setting. Each of the three cafes has a slightly different set up and they are in various locations across the city. Please contact us for more details.
