We are delighted to announce that Catherine Mason has been appointed as Chair of Solent NHS Trust by NHS Improvement. Catherine will commence her role from 1 April 2019, following the retirement of Dr. Alistair Stokes who leaves on 31 March, the natural end of his tenure.
Catherine is currently a Non-executive director of University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, joining in March 2018.
Catherine has experience of working in the transport, consumer goods and healthcare sectors. She held senior roles within marketing for blue chip companies, was the Group Chief Executive of Translink, a public transport organisation in Northern Ireland and was Managing Director of NATS (National Air Traffic Services) Services division, the leading provider of air traffic control services.
Catherine moved into healthcare in 2016 when she was appointed as Chief Executive for Allied Healthcare, the UK’s largest provider of care at home, and then joined Spire Healthcare as Chief Operating Officer.
Living locally, Catherine is committed to improving the healthcare of local communities and believes there are many opportunities for community and mental health services to drive system transformation.
Catherine states ‘I am really looking forward to working with everyone in the Trust, and with partners, to realise the vision of making a difference for the population we serve’.

Catherine has been appointed from 1 April 2019 until 31 March 2022 and will receive remuneration of £35,000 pa. She has not declared any political activity in the last five years.
