Doctors industrial action

Published: 25/11/2015

The British Medical Association (BMA) has announced industrial action by junior doctors in December in relation to a national dispute over changes to their contracts.

The BMA has announced three days of action:

• Tuesday 1/Wednesday 2 December: emergency-only cover from 8 am to 8 pm

• Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 16 December: complete walk out by junior doctors from 8am to 5pm.

Solent NHS Trust is working in partnership with our consultants and the BMA locally to ensure patient safety is maintained and to minimise disruption to patients, while also ensuring junior doctors are able to exercise their right to take industrial action.

Detailed planning is now underway to determine if changes to services will need to be made.

All patients whose appointments are affected by the industrial action will be notified in advance.

In the event of a major incident, we have agreed with the BMA that staff taking part in the industrial action will return to work.
