NHS dental spaces in Woolston

Published: 08/09/2011

Spaces have become available for residents living in Woolston to register with their local NHS Dentist at Weston Lane Dental Clinic.

The Weston Shore area clinic is located in the Weston Lane Centre for Healthy Living, right next to the local GP Surgery, making it even more convenient to access dental and medical help.

Solent NHS Trust, providers of the dental service, is encouraging residents to make regular dental check ups and hopes the availability of appointments at the clinic will go a long way in helping prevent poor dental care in this locality.

“Most people wait until something goes wrong before they see their dentist. Toothache is one of the worst pains you can experience. This is the most common reason for people needing to see us at short notice. If you visit your dentist regularly for check-ups you can help make sure these types of problems never arise,” said Mr Paul Howard, Assistant Clinical Director of the Trust’s Dental Service.

One of the most common problems that can come from not getting regular check-ups is unnoticed gum disease and tooth decay, which can result in bad breath.

Solent NHS Trust is also recommending parents to start taking their children to the dentist from birth and make sure older children have regular check-ups. Older people can also benefit from signing up with the their local NHS dentist, such as Weston Lane Dental Clinic, to make sure their mouths are healthy especially as the risk of mouth cancer increases as one grows older. Even those with dentures are urged to pop along to the dentist as many problems can go un-noticed by denture wearers.

The Weston Lane Dental Clinic can be found at Weston Lane Centre for Healthy Living, Weston Lane, Weston Shore, Southampton, SO19 9GH or call 023 8042 5320. NHS Dental Charges apply and patients must be registered with a Southampton GP.
