Local NHS staff get recognition at celebration event

“NHS staff are working above and beyond the call of duty to provide local people with quality services despite the financial challenges facing the public sector”, Dr Ros Tolcher Chief Executive of one of the country’s largest providers of community and mental health services, Solent NHS Trust, has said.

To help local staff know their efforts are not going unnoticed, Solent NHS Trust has introduced an annual event, called Valued, Involved, Proud (VIP) to recognise and reward excelling staff from its more than 4,400 staff compliment. The event is taking place in Fareham today (Tuesday 5 July 2011).

“In a very small way, we wanted to thank our staff for their continued dedication to duty especially through some very challenging times, which have seen us doing a lot more with a lot less resources. Ultimately it is the people who use our services who benefit every day from the care and compassion taken by staff to provide the best. I am immensely proud of the professional approach shown by each and every one at Solent NHS Trust and I hope the communities we serve will help us recognise and celebrate a few whose work has shown bright,” said Ros.

More than 80 entries were received for six award categories, namely Inspiring Excellence, Inspiring Leadership, Outstanding Innovation, Colleague of the Year, Team of the Year and Rising Star. Nominations and judging were all done internally but options of inviting members of the public to help nominate staff in future are being explored.

The Trust is also using today’s event to celebrate with over 250 staff who have, in the last 12 months, attained qualifications ranging from NVQ to clinical academic.

Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development, Julie Pennycook, said, “We really believe that it is important to value our staff and celebrate their successes and achievements. Our VIP and Celebrating Success Event forms only a part of our wider reward and recognition programme. It is thanks to our staff that we are able to deliver excellent services to our patients and that we can consider Solent NHS Trust to be a ‘great place to work’.”
