Quit for one day? Give it a go

Published: 23/03/2011

27 in 100 people in Southampton smoke. We want to help people quit. Not everyone is sure about stopping smoking for good and in fact most people approach it with some uncertainty. Is this you? Then maybe Southampton Quitters can help.

Starting today, Solent Healthcare Quitters is offering a new service where smokers can try quitting for a day without having to commit to stopping forever – a bit like a taster session. You get all the same free support, which now includes telephone and email support, and you could even get some free nicotine lozenges or gum to help you.

Alan Elgar, Senior Smoking Cessation Advisor at Solent Healthcare said: “We frequently meet people who have been thinking about stopping smoking but are unsure if they want to stop for good or are worried about committing to a full program. ‘Quit for one day’ is offering people the chance to give quitting a try but as the name suggests, just for one day. Anyone who attends and wants to kick the habit for good will get our full support package to become a non smoker. Those that don’t feel ready won’t be pushed. We are here to help, not pressure people.”

It’s really simple to sign up. All you need to do is contact Quitters by calling: 023 8051 5221 or by visiting the Quitters website and quote ‘quit for one day’. An advisor will speak with you or call you back and get you started.
