Major investment in mental health for Portsmouth’s Veterans and their families

The Portsmouth Military Mental Health Alliance is delighted to announce the launch of a major investment in mental health services in the city.  The Armed Forces Covenant has awarded £697,188 to the Alliance, to fund a two year programme of mental health support to Veterans and their families, featuring three core services.

The funding will be used by the Alliance to create a new, open access service, in a dedicated space for Portsmouth residents.  This new facility will host an area specifically for veterans and their families, enabling them to access ‘on the day’ mental health support, reducing immediate emotional distress.

Alongside the centre will be the Solent Recovery College, which will focus on education, enabling people to learn about their mental health and how to become more resilient in the face of mental health challenges.

Additionally, the funding will support a new rapid response service for people in immediate crisis who would prefer to talk with someone who has served in the Armed Forces and who has experienced similar challenges.

The Portsmouth Military Mental Health Alliance shares a mission to support people with mental health needs that are not currently being met by existing services and will be connecting with others in the city, ensuring that veterans and their families receive the very best care and support.

The Alliance currently comprises Solent NHS Trust, Solent Mind, Society of St. James, Prince of Wales Royal Regiment Association, ExforcesNet and Portsmouth’s Clinical Commissioning Group.
