Oakdene Adult Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit

Oakdene Unit provides Inpatient Mental Health Rehabilitation for people who are experiencing severe and enduring mental health difficulties.

Referral Criteria

A service user who is experiencing severe and enduring mental illness:

Whose risks are manageable on an open AMH ward and who has the potential to benefit from specialist time limited rehabilitation assessment and intervention.

Service user who has the potential to benefit from a recovery focussed environment.

The service user requires multi-disciplinary professional assessment and intervention.

Referrals will be accepted from Portsmouth Adult Mental Health Services.

  • Referrals from outside of the Portsmouth area will be considered for service users who wish to return to the Portsmouth area and/or who have significant links with Portsmouth.
  • Referrers will need to complete an application form available from Oakdene.
  • Referrals must be supported by a full core assessment within RiO, an     up- to-date risk assessment, CPA and crisis and contingency plan.

Oakdene is a 24 hour inpatient unit and admissions are co-ordinated according to individual need. Oakdene has flexible visiting arrangements to support individual recovery.

Full service description

Oakdene is a 14 bedded Residential Rehabilitation and Recovery Unit.  We are a multi-disciplinary team made up of medical, nursing, occupational therapy and administration staff.

Our aim is to provide safe and effective rehabilitation and recovery services. 

This service will make recovery visible by:

Encouraging and promoting hope by exploring how individuals can have more active control over their lives and by learning how others have found a way forward.

Valuing and supporting the exploration of individuals uniqueness, to help people make sense of their experience and re-discover a sense of control and personal identity ensuring real choice and respectful partnership and central to all aspects of our work and interactions.
