Full service description

Orthotists are able to assess to see if a mechanical device, such as a splint or special footwear, can keep a child mobile, reduce pain, or prevent any deformity in their limbs or body.

The orthotist will measure the part of the body that the child needs to have an orthoses for and will decide on the best treatment. Orthoses or devices can be ordered from specialist providers or made specifically to suit the individual.  The fitting is done a later appointment once the item has arrived.

Any orthoses must be worn as instructed.  If there is a problem with the orthoses such as rubbing, pain, broken or damaged, too small or if the child is refusing to wear it, the parent or carer can contact the enquiry service to ask for help or a review appointment.
