Access Mental Health Workshops

On this page, you will be able to find out more about the workshops ~Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust are running - between April and June 2018 - to improve access to our mental health services in Portsmouth and East Hampshire. This is a collaborative project between our commissioners and we (Solent NHS Trust) are supporting these efforts.

Workshop One - 30 April to 4 May 2018

The focus this week is on Advice and Information.

You can also choose to read the round-up of the week's workshop - sharing what's been achieved - when available.

Here's why workshop participants are getting involved:

Leigh Gentle, a current service user explained: “It’s a privilege to have a voice and to be part of the process of change. I’m specifically interested in looking at how the teaching of self-help and self-management skills can be incorporated into the new-look services. Enabling people to help themselves is so important and much more empowering than others always helping you. It takes a long time to get to this point but self-help is a crucial component on everyone’s road to recovery.”

Pauline McNamara, parent of a daughter who received treatment recently added: “Why did I decide to attend the workshop? My daughter was cared for by mental health services last year and, after a very difficult time and going through the complaints process, I really want to be able to have a positive influence on changes being made to improve the mental health services for other people in the future.”

Kylie Witkowski, clinical manager at Solent NHS Trust also said: “I got involved in the workshops because I wanted to have a positive influence on change and to work towards better patient care. As I work in crisis care, I’m particularly interested in developing a single point of access, which is ageless, to ensure a more joined up approach to assessment…to benefit patients.”
