Self-refer

Our service is for people aged sixteen and over who are registered with a GP in Portsmouth.
We are a team of clinicians and researchers who specialise in the understanding and treatment of mental health.
We provide treatment in clinics and hospitals across the city.

What happens next?

Within two weeks, you will be offered an initial assessment. This involves a thirty-minute assessment with a therapist over the telephone to assess your needs and suitability for our service. Occasionally, a further assesment is required if we need further information. This involves a sixty-minute assessment with a therapist face-to-face.Following your telephone assessment and/or face-to-face assessment, the therapist will aim to offer you the most appropriate and recommended treatment.

How long do I have to wait?

We strive to keeping waitiing times to an absolute minimum. We understand that it's important to see you as quickly as possible. We are currrently able to offer an initial telephone assessment within two weeks of receiving your referral. If you require a subsequent face-to-face assessment, we are generally able to offer you an appointment within two weeks of your telephone assessment. We do everything we can to offer you treatment at the earliest opportunity - typically between two and four weeks of your first/last assessment.

What can I do to prepare for my assessment?

We will send you an appointment confirmation letter and some short questionnaires that assess your mood and anxiety. Please kindly complete these questionnaires before the assessment. Please also consider whether or not you will be able to realistically commit to a course of short-term psychotherapy on a weekly basis. We would be grateful if you could also consider your goals for therapy.
