Collaborative Press Release – issued by partners of Solent Regional Collaboration Hub:
Southampton hosts regional housing, health and care summit to strengthen the mental health and wellbeing of local communities
Senior public sector health, housing and social care leaders from across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight will meet in Southampton this Friday to agree how they can work better together and help build stronger, healthier communities.
It is hoped the event will lead to commitment from the leaders present to real action that will make a difference to some of the most vulnerable residents and communities in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
Working collaboratively with Shared Ventures Ltd, a conversation has started between sectors to reimagine service delivery across traditional sector boundaries. It is hoped the event will lead to commitment from the leaders present to real action that will make a difference to some of the most vulnerable residents and communities in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
Event sponsor Sue Harriman, Chief Executive Officer at Solent NHS Trust, said:
“We know that we cannot fix a health crisis, a housing crisis, nor social care crisis working in isolation from one another. We need to work creatively and collaboratively to deliver services which keep people safe and well in their homes for longer”.
Friday’s collaborative event focuses on strengthening the mental health and wellbeing of local communities. Sue continues “From our early discussions between different public sectors we recognise that patients, tenants and those whom we care for in their own homes can find it difficult to readily access support, and that even some of our own teams struggle to engage other public sector colleagues in a timely way. We’re starting a conversation around this as a key priority – working across different sectors to unpick how we can better use our collective assets, our joint workforces and build grass-roots community resilience to change and strengthen support available for those with mental ill-health”.
Solent NHS Trust is hosting, and sponsoring, this free to attend, but invitation only conversation at Trust Head Quarters at Highpoint Venue, Southampton on Friday 29 September 2017. The day features key note speakers from Hampshire & IOW health, housing and care sectors, examples of great cross-sector partnership already happening, and opportunity for collective problem solving.
Sue concludes “We know the conversation won’t end here as we will all need to continue to work hard to be the change we need to see – but we’re starting the conversation as we mean to go on – together.”
Sue Harriman, Chief Executive Officer, Solent NHS Trust, and Sharon Collins, Director of Shared Ventures Ltd, are available for interview.
Sharon Collins and Patrick Fowler from Shared Ventures Ltd www.sharedventures.co.ukhave worked in the Hampshire and Isle of Wight social housing and care sectors for many years specialising in delivering community-led business transformation.
From their work across different public sector businesses and local level engagement with communities, they could see that silo system working stifled the ability for public organisations to work innovatively and creatively across sectors.
In September 2016, gifting their time and expertise, Sharon and Patrick formed Solent Regional Collaboration Hub comprising health, housing and care professionals. The Hub enabled shared understanding of common problems, explored similarities of vision and values, and trust flourished between professionals enabling an appetite and excitement to work differently.
Keen to engage the broader Hampshire and IOW housing, health and care communities, the idea for this event was born, to begin a conversation with key sector leaders focusing on how we might work differently and as a key priority, focus on improving the health and wellbeing of local communities.
