It wasn’t the glitz and glamour of the outfits that shone at this year’s Portsmouth News’ annual Best of Health Awards. It was the inspirational nominees and winners that truly sparkled.
Our Trust had a number of individual and team nominations across several of the categories with our staff battling it out to be crowned.
Special congratulations go to Colin Beevor who won Hospital Nurse of the Year award.
Colin, who works as a matron in the Rheumatology Department at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, was recognised for being an inspirational nurse and whose ‘guidance and support have been invaluable to all’.
Colin said: “It’s fantastic to have won. This award recognises the fact I have a great team around me that gives me a service I can be proud of.
“It’s a service the patients appreciate and it’s only possible because of the team I have with me.
“They do anything I can ask them and we all work really well together.”
But Colin wasn’t the only member of our staff celebrating as our Sexual Health Services were also recognised for their innovative rapid HIV testing scheme as they were named runner-up in the Community Team/Nurse of the Year category.
For Chrissie Carden-Noad, Specialist Occupational Therapist at Rowans Hospice, there was also cause to smile as she was announced runner-up in the brand new category Allied Health Professional Worker/Team of the Year.
Chrissie was nominated for the compassion and care she showed a patient during the final stages of their life, with her nomination describing her as, practical, responsive, resourceful, honest, cheerful and kind. She was also recognised for her ability to build a rapport with a person, and ability to talk about a subject that is often difficult to discuss.
A special mention also goes to the Amulree Team at St Mary’s Community Health Campus. The team which helps treat people with diabetes in the community scooped the top prize in the Community Nurse/Team of the Year category. The service, now run by Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, was provided by Solent at the time of nomination.
Now in its sixth year, the Best of Health awards black tie ceremony was held at Portsmouth Guildhall in October.
