Integrating e-rostering

Solent NHS Trust, one of the largest community providers in the NHS, has today announced an extended partnership with Allocate Software, to integrate the Healthroster e-rostering tool across the organisation.

Solent NHS Trust expects to save over £1m annually by rolling out Healthroster across the entire Trust. Such savings will help make improvements to the quality of patient care where gaps are identified.

Solent NHS Trust was established as a standalone organisation in April 2011. A year earlier, two NHS community and mental health providers in Southampton and Portsmouth had merged as Solent Healthcare, the organisation that then broke away from its parent entity, Southampton City Primary Care Trust (PCT), to form Solent NHS Trust.

Merges are typically turbulent times for trusts, as front line staff move across the enlarged organisation, creating a sense of unease and uncertainty. Solent NHS Trust selected Allocate Software two years ago, in a competitive pitch based on Allocate’s proven track record, while Portsmouth selected an alternative supplier.

Following the success of the original project in Southampton, Solent NHS Trust has selected to extend the Healthroster solution across the whole organisation. The Trust will now have the visibility it needs to ensure that every staff task is accounted for, standards are adhered to, services are efficiently and intelligently staffed and remote teams are mobilised to deliver specialist care.

Dave Meehan, Chief Operating Officer at Solent NHS Trust, said: “As a community organisation, with well over 4,400 staff over a dispersed geography, ensuring we have the right staff with the right skills mix at the point of need has never been more crucial. We are already reaping the benefits of e-rostering. This is important taken in the context of current government reforms where NHS Trusts are under more pressure than ever before to provide the best patient care, at the lowest cost.”

Healthroster will give Solent NHS Trust a more transparent and objective system for staff deployment, to enable the following:

  1. Embed a clear and fair policy around working practices by empowering the board to set safety rules and alert managers to staff who regularly work unsocial hours
  2. Quick access to real time data on sickness and other non-productive staff time to ensure staffing levels are maintained at all times, resulting in reduced reliance on bank and agency staff
  3. Streamline labour intensive administrative processes, such as timesheet submission and approval
  4. Powerful reporting capabilities on staff skills to allow for easy auditing of training requirements and competencies
  5. Robust pandemic flu planning

I am a Solent NHS Trust Bank staff and appreciate all the positive changes happening around me in the various departments. I am thankful for the team support and training received in the NHS. Like many other long term Bank staff, we hope to settle in a more permanent role within the organisation and give the best of our skills and abilities to the service.
